10 Quick Tips About Dry Skin Moisturizers

Why is Moisturizer So Important?

Our skin is our barrier; it protects us from unseen invaders like bacteria, viruses, and other potentially harmful organisms and toxins. Our skin prevents us from losing large amounts of water. The outermost layer of skin, called stratum corneum, serves as our first line of defense. Some dermatologists call this our bricks and mortar. When atopic dermatitis develops, the stratum corneum breaks down. With gaps in our bricks and mortar, the skin is more easily irritated. These gaps make it easier for bacteria and viruses to enter the body. Easier access and the weakened immune system of atopic dermatitis make people more susceptible to infection, and skin also loses moisture more readily, causing dry skin. When patients with atopic dermatitis properly use a recommended moisturizer, it can help to retain moisture.

The Formula:

1 tablespoon olive oil, 1/4 teaspoon coconut oil, 1 teaspoon rice bran oil, 1 teaspoon light sesame oil, 1 teaspoon macadamia nut oil, and 2 teaspoons lemon extract.

Instructions:

Over low heat, warm all the ingredients until the coconut oil is liquefied, then pour into a small non-metallic container.  Put three drops of the mixture on your fingertips and gently apply it to your face with a dabbing motion.  For future uses, it can be microwaved until mildly warm.

essential oils as a moisturizer:

Use olive oil as a moisturizer and add essential oils like lavender and sandalwood to it for the aroma. You don't have to add essential oils. Olive oil is nourishing and healing to the skin. For cleansing, use something we use for many things in our home, from cleaning like hand soap to facial cleansing. It's called "sunshine concentrate." It keeps the acid mantle of skin the way it's supposed to be and keeps the hands and body from being dry even in winter. It is believed that chemical soaps being used today create skin that requires all body lotions. It's just a big circle. If you're concerned about bacteria, add a few drops of tea tree oil to your hand soap, which you can use for facial cleansing, especially if you have acne.

It is possible that some people require moisturizer while others do not. For people with dry skin, moisturizer is a must. However, applying moisturizer will help smooth one's foundation. The steps are as follows.

a) Moisturizer shall be suitable for the skin type of an individual. For dry skin, one needs to choose a heavier moisturizer product, e.g. those moisturizers that contain plant oil like macadamia oil. For normal skin, a lighter moisturizer will serve the purpose. For oily skin, one should try to avoid using moisturizer. However, if required, one should choose the oil-free range of products.

b) The number one rule in moisturizing the face is not to overdo it, as it can have negative effects on the skin. A moisturizer is more effective on drier areas of the face, such as the forehead or chin.

c) Maximize the effect of moisturizer by gently rubbing it with fingers in circular motion around the face.
