English teaching made easy

1.1 Aims of teaching English at the Primary Level 

1. Understand simple statements when spoken.

2. Acquire ability to read fluently and understand simple passages within the vocabulary and structural range of the syllabus.

3. Understand questions asked, short talks and short passages when read out all within his experience

4. Ask simple questions relating to his experience.

5. Respond to short conversational questions.

6. Express in writing with reasonable accuracy on topic within his experience.

1.2 Aims of teaching English at the Secondary Level

 1. Understand the short speeches, narrative, commentaries or prescribed passages read out from a book.

2. Asking sensible questions and answering the questions clearly. 

3. Carrying on a sensible conversation with clarity of expression on passages or topics from the prescribed material.

4. Express one's ideas coherently and taking part in conversation.

5. Reading silently and understanding the ideas in the passage of simple English within the range of the syllabus.

6. Understanding messages and advertisements.

7. Interpreting materials presented in the form of a table or chart.

8. Writing English neatly, legibly and correctly with proper punctuation and spelling.

9. Writing simple letters (personal or official)

10. Acquiring a vocabulary, though limited, is enough to help them in the use of the language.

 

1.3 Aims of teaching English at the Higher Secondary Level

1. Speaking English fluently, accurately and frequently.

2. Responding to the situations actively.

3. Ability to understand the native speakers and also be able to respond to them.

4. Reading books, newspaper and periodicals in English with proper understanding. 

5. Acquiring a vocabulary of 2500 words approximately including English phrases and idioms.

6. Using reference materials viz. encyclopedias, dictionaries, reference books etc, when they needed.
