In vitro fertilization (IVF) assists with pregnancy, embryonic development, and fertilization, so that you can conceive.

How does IVF work?

IVF represents in vitro fertilization. It is one of the most popular forms of assisted reproductive technology (ART). IVF works by using a combination of medications and surgical procedures to help sperm fertilize an egg, and to help implant a fertilized egg in your uterus.

First, you are taking medication that makes your few eggs mature and ready for pregnancy. The doctor then removes the eggs from your body and mixes them with the sperm on the board, helping the sperm to fertilize the eggs. Then lay 1 or more eggs (embryos) directly in your uterus. Pregnancy occurs when embryos are implanted in the lining of your uterus.

IVF has many steps, and it takes a few months to complete the whole process. Sometimes it works in the first attempt, but most people need more than 1 round of IVF to get pregnant. IVF will definitely increase your chances of getting pregnant if you have birth defects, but there is no guarantee - everyone's body is different and IVF will not work for everyone.

What is the IVF process?

The first step in IVF is taking birth control pills for a few months to help your ovaries produce more mature eggs and be ready for pregnancy. This is called ovulation induction. You can get regular ultrasound or blood tests to measure your hormone levels and keep track of your egg production.

Once your ovaries have produced the remaining mature eggs, your doctor will remove the eggs from your body (this is called ovulation). Egg resuscitation is a minor surgical procedure performed at your doctor's office or fertility clinic.

You will receive a medication that will help you relax and feel comfortable during the procedure. Using ultrasound to detect the inside of your body, the doctor inserts a tiny, empty tube into your vagina and uterus and into the follicles that hold your eggs. The needle is connected to a suction device that pulls the eggs gently into each follicle.

In the lab, your eggs are fertilized by sperm cells from your partner or donor - this is called insemination. Eggs and sperm are stored together in a special container, which can be fertilized. With low-flow sperm (do not swim again), they can be injected directly into the eggs to promote sperm insertion. As the cells in fertilized eggs divide into embryos, laborers monitor the progress.

About 3-5 days after fertilization, 1 or more embryos are implanted in your uterus (this is called fetal transfer). The doctor moves a small tube through your cervix into your uterus, then inserts the embryo directly into your uterus through a tube.

Pregnancy occurs when embryos attach to the lining of your uterus. Transfers are performed at your doctor's office or fertility clinic, and they are usually painless.

Plan to rest all day after the transfer of the embryo. You can return to your normal activities the next day. You can also take pills or get a daily dose of the hormone progesterone for the first 8-10 weeks after fetal transfer. Hormones make it easier for the embryo to survive in your womb.

What are the side effects of IVF?

As with all medications and treatments, IVF has some risks and side effects. These include:

  1. constipation

  1. disgust

  1. be kind

  1. mood swings

  1. head

  1. injuries from shooting

  1. overdose of medication

  1. bleeding

  1. infection

Your doctor can talk to you about any questions or concerns you have about the risks of IVF and side effects.

IVF can also be emotionally difficult, both for the person with the procedures and for his or her partner and / or family. Many people undergoing IVF treatment struggle with depression and anxiety throughout the process.

Talking to people who have been through the struggles of childbirth and IVF can be very helpful if you are feeling frustrated or depressed. Online and personal communities are also great places to meet people who understand your situation and who can offer advice and support. Counselors and therapists can also be sources of comfort.
